# Managing Sources

Depending on your [user role and permissions](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/user-roles), you can:

* [Preview a source](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/managing-sources#previewing-a-source).
* [Refresh source data from cloud storage locations](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/managing-sources#refreshing-source-data-from-cloud-storage-locations).
* [Reupload a source file](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/managing-sources#reuploading-a-source-file).
* [Edit sources](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/managing-sources#editing-a-source).
* [Delete sources](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/managing-sources#deleting-a-source).

# Previewing a Source

First, select the project **Project** dropdown menu. On the **Sources** page, select **Preview** ![](https://files.readme.io/b5ecc85-preview_24dp_FILL0_wght400_GRAD0_opsz24.png) in the source row to open a preview of the dataset.

# Refreshing Source Data from Cloud Storage Locations

You can refresh source data stored in a cloud storage location or database, such as AWS S3 or Snowflake, to make the latest data available in mastering flows.

If your source dataset’s schema has changed since adding it to Tamr Cloud, then your refresh will fail. For example, if you have new, removed, or renamed columns in your source dataset’s schema, your refresh will fail. Instead of refreshing, [add it as a new source dataset](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/importing-source-data-from-an-external-data-repository).

> ![](https://files.readme.io/4e9086e-warning-icon-color.png) **Important**: If a source refresh fails:
>
> * [Data products](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/data-product-guides) using that source will fail when run.
> * [Legacy data products](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/tamr-cloud-templates) using that source will run, using the previous source data.

**To upload a newer version of your existing source data:**

1. Select the project from the **Project** dropdown menu.
2. Navigate to **Sources**.
3. To refresh a source, select **Refresh** ![](https://files.readme.io/bdc99ef-In_progress.png) in the source row.

# Re-uploading a Source File

You can re-upload a local source data file to make the latest data available.

If your source dataset’s schema has changed since uploading it into Tamr Cloud, then you’ll need to add the updated source as a new source dataset. You need to do this if, for example, you have new, removed, or renamed columns in your source dataset’s schema.

> * [Data products](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/data-product-guides) using that source will fail when run.
> * [Legacy data products](https://cloud.docs.tamr.com/tamr-cloud/docs/tamr-cloud-templates) using that source will run, using the previous source data.

**To upload a new version of a source file:**

1. Select the project from the **Project** dropdown menu.
2. Navigate to **Sources**.
3. In the Sources table, under the Actions column, select **Re-upload** ![](https://files.readme.io/d43d8fc-upload_.png) for the source you need to upload again.
4. Upload your file and confirm your re-upload.

# Editing a Source

You can edit all source settings other than the source name.

1. Navigate to  **Sources**.
2. Locate the source you want to edit, and select **Edit** ![](https://files.readme.io/8a5113e-pencil-icon-black.png) in its row.

# Deleting a Source

> ![](https://files.readme.io/4e9086e-warning-icon-color.png) **Important**: Deleting a source file removes it from Tamr Cloud. If you delete a source file used in data products, that file will no longer be available to those data products.

1. Select the project from the **Project** dropdown menu.
2. Navigate to **Sources**.
3. Locate the source you want to delete, and select **Delete** ![](https://files.readme.io/15b5548-trash-icon-black.png) in its row.
